Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has raised concerns over the re-election process of President Bola Tinubu, questioning the legitimacy of others handling his nomination forms.
Sowore’s remarks come in response to the recent endorsement of Tinubu’s N100 million presidential nomination forms by David Umahi. Umahi, who currently serves as Minister of Works, reportedly signed the forms in support of Tinubu’s bid for another term.
In a statement released on Tuesday through his media aide, Francis Nwaze, Umahi described the move as a symbol of commitment to sustaining the administration’s progress. He characterised the nomination as a pivotal step in Nigeria’s development, emphasizing continuity, stability, and the consolidation of achievements under Tinubu’s leadership.

Umahi highlighted ongoing infrastructure reforms, particularly in road construction and rehabilitation, as evidence of the administration’s impact on economic growth. He added that Tinubu is well-positioned to complete existing projects and expand development initiatives across sectors, stressing that consistent leadership remains vital for long-term national goals.
However, reacting via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Sowore questioned why the president was not personally handling his own nomination process. He suggested that such actions could be a deliberate attempt to distance Tinubu from potential controversies, including issues surrounding his qualifications.

“Why is someone always filling Tinubu’s election forms for him when he isn’t there?” Sowore wrote. “Is it so he can distance himself when they fill in his dubious qualifications or lack thereof?”
