Oyo Political Tension: Ladoja’s Son Clarifies Olubadan Visit, Denies Impeachment Plot, Bribery Allegations

Amid escalating political tension in Oyo State, Sola Ladoja, son of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has clarified that the recent visit of the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin, to the traditional ruler was political in nature—but not connected to any impeachment plot or financial inducement.

His clarification follows growing speculation that the meeting was part of alleged political scheming targeting Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.

Sola dismissed reports suggesting that the visit involved discussions on impeachment plans, opposition alliances, or monetary inducement, insisting that his earlier comments had been widely misunderstood.

According to him, his reference to “receipts” in a previous post on X was not about financial transactions but simply about conversations exchanged during the meeting.

“My recent tweet was deleted because I realised a lot of people thought I meant a payment receipt. No. I meant receipt of our conversations,” he explained.

He maintained that while the Speaker’s visit to the Olubadan had political undertones, it did not include any discussions about impeachment, APC coordination, or money.

“Yes, the visit was political, but there were no impeachment discussions, no APC agenda, and no money involved,” he said.

Sola also revealed that he facilitated the meeting after being approached by the Speaker, urging the public to avoid interpretations that could further inflame tensions in the state.

The clarification comes amid persistent rumours of attempts to destabilise Governor Makinde’s administration—claims that key political actors have repeatedly denied.

Earlier, Sunkanmi Babalola, lawmaker representing Egbeda State Constituency, also dismissed allegations linking him and others to secret meetings aimed at impeaching the governor, describing such claims as baseless and misleading.

He further rejected reports of financial inducement ranging from ₦250 million to ₦1 billion, insisting that lawmakers remain committed to the mandate given to them by the electorate.

“The people of Oyo State spoke clearly when they elected Governor Seyi Makinde. No amount of money can subvert that mandate,” Babalola stated.

Meanwhile, Speaker Debo Ogundoyin has also denied allegations of receiving funds from APC-linked sources to facilitate any impeachment agenda. He described the claims as false, politically motivated, and aimed at damaging his reputation.

Ogundoyin insisted that no financial transactions occurred at any of his meetings and reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Makinde and the ruling party.

He also clarified that his visit to the Olubadan was purely consultative and took place weeks earlier, noting that he had met the monarch to inform him of his governorship ambition and seek blessings in line with tradition.

As denials continue to mount, political observers say the situation reflects deepening tensions within Oyo’s political landscape, even as stakeholders insist there is no impeachment agenda against the governor.
