Former Ogun Central Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has officially withdrawn her interest in contesting the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
The daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo announced her decision in a statement released on Monday, bringing an end to her earlier political ambition for the state’s top office.
According to her, the move follows the endorsement of Senator Solomon Adeola as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the forthcoming election.
In her statement, Iyabo Obasanjo congratulated Adeola on his emergence, wishing him success as he prepares for the 2027 race. She also expressed gratitude to both state and national leaders of the All Progressives Congress for allowing her to participate in the party’s internal selection process.

“I congratulate him and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process,” she said.

She explained that her decision to step aside was based on the outcome of a caucus meeting, where party leaders reportedly reached a consensus on Adeola’s candidacy.
Addressing her supporters across Ogun State, she expressed appreciation for their loyalty and encouragement throughout her political journey.
“To my supporters across Ogun State, I am deeply grateful for your calm, steadfast support and unwavering trust throughout this journey. Together, we move forward with patience, strength and hope,” she added.
