Former Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has called on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) elected during the March 29, 2026 national convention to treat the recent Supreme Court verdict as a turning point for unity and electoral preparation ahead of 2027.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki described the ruling of the Supreme Court of Nigeriaas both a challenge and an opportunity for party leaders to immediately begin reconciliation efforts and reposition the PDP for future success.
He noted that the judgment validated his long-standing position that the Ibadan convention should not have been held, advocating instead for an interim arrangement to prevent prolonged internal disputes and legal battles.

Saraki recalled presenting this stance to party stakeholders at various meetings, including consultations with a committee of elders led by Hassan Adamu.

According to him, with the apex court nullifying the Ibadan convention and affirming the Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara-led National Working Committee as the legitimate leadership—recognized both legally and by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—the party must now move forward as a united entity.
“There is now only one PDP,” Saraki emphasized, urging members across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to close ranks and focus on rebuilding the party into a credible platform for governance and political participation.
He stressed that the focus should shift from internal victories and losses to strengthening the party’s structure and appeal. Those who were unsuccessful in court, he added, should see reconciliation as a collective win for the party’s future.
Saraki expressed satisfaction that the PDP has overcome legal hurdles that could have threatened its participation in the 2027 elections, describing the party as a viable alternative platform for Nigerians.
He concluded with an appeal to aggrieved members to reconsider their positions and embrace unity, noting that the broader objective of preserving the PDP as a credible political force has now been achieved.
