He made this appeal on Friday during a meeting with the committee in Abuja, following his previous non-appearances on April 17 and 24.

Vice Admiral Ibas expressed his regret for the earlier absences, clarifying that they were not due to disrespect but rather a result of the pressing and critical demands of stabilizing governance in Rivers State.
He emphasized his high regard for the National Assembly and acknowledged the importance of their oversight responsibilities during this transitional period, which he described as “relatively calm, but still fragile.”
“That said, I only request your understanding and the indulgence of this committee to grant me additional time to adequately prepare and present a comprehensive and constructive briefing.
Given the complexities and sensitivities surrounding the current transitional period in River,” Vice Admiral Ibas stated.
I have always held the National Assembly in the highest regard. I recognise the importance of your oversight responsibilities and your interest in the progress being made in River,” said Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, Sole Administrator of Rivers State.
He assured the committee of his full commitment to cooperation and to providing all necessary information to support their work.
Speaking to reporters after a closed-door meeting, the Chairman of the Ad hoc Committee, Representative Julius Ihonvbere (APC-Edo), announced that the committee had agreed to grant the Sole Administrator a new date for the briefing.
Representative Ihonvbere underscored the constitutional role of the National Assembly in legitimizing and overseeing the declared state of emergency in Rivers State, emphasizing the legislature’s central role in the ongoing transitional process.
He also expressed satisfaction that the Sole Administrator had finally honored the committee’s invitation after previous postponements.
