APC Defends Dapo Abiodun, Accuses Gbenga Daniel of Political Propaganda

The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed recent criticisms directed at Governor Dapo Abiodun, describing them as politically motivated propaganda allegedly linked to former Governor Gbenga Daniel and his supporters.

In a strongly worded reaction to an article titled “Tinubu, Abiodun, and the Cost of Rewarding Rebellion,” supporters of the governor argued that the publication was aimed at discrediting the administration and reviving old political divisions within the state.

According to the statement, attempts to portray Governor Abiodun as a beneficiary of political rebellion were misleading and failed to reflect the realities of the democratic process that produced his emergence as governor.

The pro-Abiodun camp maintained that political disagreements during party primaries are common in democratic systems and should not be interpreted as betrayal or anti-party activity.

The statement further accused Senator Gbenga Daniel of repeatedly attempting to weaken the APC structure in Ogun State whenever political developments do not align with his interests. It alleged that such efforts often involve sponsoring negative media narratives and creating public sympathy through political confrontations.

Supporters of the governor also criticised the alleged inclusion of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the political dispute, describing it as unnecessary and reflective of long-standing political tensions between Daniel and the President.

They recalled past political alignments involving the former governor, including his reported association with opposition interests during previous election cycles before eventually joining the APC.

The statement noted that concerns still linger among some party members over alleged anti-party activities during the 2023 elections, claims which continue to generate debate within the Ogun APC.

Despite the controversies, the group insisted that the APC in Ogun State remains united and focused ahead of the 2027 elections.

It also defended Governor Abiodun’s administration, citing ongoing investments in infrastructure, economic development, and social programmes across the state.

The statement concluded that Ogun residents are capable of distinguishing between governance and political propaganda, stressing that the current administration remains committed to stability and development.
