In a successful operation based on local intelligence, Nigerian Army troops in Taraba State apprehended a long-sought-after bandit, Yusuf “Dogo” Hammadu, and a military impersonator, recovering arms and ammunition
The Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade/Sector 3, operating under Operation Whirl Stroke, has announced the successful arrest of a wanted bandit and a military impersonator in Taraba State.

The operation, codenamed LAFIYAN JAMAA, was executed following crucial intelligence provided by vigilant local residents.

Captain Oni Olubodunde, the Acting spokesperson for the Brigade, confirmed the arrests in a statement released today, Friday, April 25, 2025. He also reported the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition during the operations.
“These operations are a testament to our unwavering commitment to eradicating criminal elements from Taraba State.
The invaluable support and timely information from the local communities are highly appreciated and crucial to our success,” stated Captain Olubodunde.
Providing details of the operations, Captain Olubodunde recounted an incident on April 16th, where troops responded to a distress call from a local hunter and raided a suspected bandit camp in Dutsen Kachalla, Lau Local Government Area.

While the suspects managed to escape into nearby mountainous terrain, the troops recovered significant items, including a rifle butt, an AK-47 magazine, a military headgear, and an identification card belonging to one Adamu Umaru Jauro.
Building on this success, further intelligence led to the apprehension of Yusuf Hammadu, widely known as “Dogo,” on April 19th in Lainde Jessy, Lau LGA. Hammadu has been a notorious figure, long wanted by security agencies for his alleged involvement in numerous violent crimes plaguing the region.
The Nigerian Army has reiterated its steadfast commitment to ensuring peace and security within Taraba State.
