PDP leaders caution defections talk as BoT urges members to avoid divisive remarks, promote unity, and respect party structure ahead of NEC convention in Abuja

Speaking during the 81st BoT meeting in Abuja, Chairman Adolphus Wabara, represented by Secretary Ahmed Makarfi, advised party leaders and members to show discipline and unity, especially ahead of the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

“I urge all members to be cautious of what they say or do. Some cannot be working to rebuild the party and others trying to de-market it,” Wabara said.
He noted that many defectors may still return and warned against burning bridges. “We should be cautious about expressing opinions, even about those who have left us, because what we want is for them to come back now or very soon,” he added.

Wabara emphasised that only designated party organs should speak on behalf of the PDP and reminded members that personal opinions must be clearly stated as such.
“The party has formal organs for speaking, and that should be respected,” he said.
The meeting, held at the party’s national secretariat, is seen as a key step toward rebuilding internal cohesion and preparing for a successful national convention.
Wabara called on members to set aside grievances, encourage dialogue, and present a united front to Nigerians.
Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum also addressed the gathering, reaffirming that the PDP remains the most credible political alternative in Nigeria.
“We are the hope of this country,” Damagum said. “The PDP is the same brand founded to fight injustice, to strengthen democracy, and to lead with all sense of honour.”
He urged members not to let emotion override reason, encouraging pride in the PDP’s legacy and continued relevance.
