The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, has pledged full political backing to Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as momentum builds ahead of the 2027 Lagos governorship race.
Obasa made the declaration on Thursday while hosting Hamzat at his official residence in GRA, Ikeja, assuring the deputy governor of his readiness to mobilise his extensive political structure to secure victory at the polls.
Hamzat, widely regarded as the presumptive candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is currently engaging party leaders and stakeholders in a series of strategic consultations across the state.
Speaking during the meeting, Obasa praised Hamzat’s track record in governance, particularly his contributions to infrastructure development and his loyalty to the ruling party. He stressed that continuity in leadership remains critical to sustaining Lagos State’s growth trajectory.
“I just returned from Abuja, and the message is consistent — Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat is poised to become the next Governor of Lagos State. His dedication to the party and proven competence in public service stand him out. We are fully behind him and committed to delivering victory,” Obasa said.
In response, Hamzat expressed appreciation for the endorsement, describing Obasa’s legislative experience and political influence as vital assets in the journey ahead. He emphasised that his consultations are driven by a collective vision rather than personal ambition.
“Lagos is a shared responsibility. What we seek is continuity, innovation, and inclusive development that benefits all residents. This is not about one individual but about the future of our state,” Hamzat stated.
