The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially launched the process for selecting its candidates for the upcoming general elections, opening nomination forms for all eligible members starting tomorrow.
This move follows an important consultation between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party’s governors, aimed at ensuring a smooth and fair primary election process. The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa, also reviewed the party’s primary timetable to ensure timely adherence to the Electoral Act.
Key Dates for APC Primaries:

- Nomination Forms Sale: April 25 – May 2
- Forms Submission Deadline: May 4
- Presidential Primary: May 23 (now scheduled last)
- House of Representatives: May 15
- Senate: May 18
- House of Assembly: May 20

With the sale of forms now underway, the APC is poised for an intense period of political activity, with party offices expected to be buzzing with activity as members gear up for the primaries. The electronic membership list of the APC has been transmitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ensuring that only registered members can participate in the primaries, well ahead of the May 10 deadline set by INEC for all political parties.
President Tinubu and the governors stressed the importance of conducting peaceful, transparent primaries in all states, with the governors empowered to oversee the process in their respective states. The National Working Committee (NWC) confirmed that both direct and consensus modes of primaries will be used, with consensus agreements requiring the approval of all aspirants.

Addressing the internal party dynamics, the NWC also scheduled ward, local government, and state congresses in Zamfara State, beginning on April 28 and concluding by May 3.
The meeting with the governors, which was led by Tinubu and attended by key APC leaders, focused on ensuring a smooth transition into the primary election process. Governors expressed their gratitude for Tinubu’s leadership and support, with the President reiterating his commitment to a fair and inclusive process that will ultimately strengthen the party ahead of the 2026 elections.
As the countdown to the primaries begins, the APC is positioning itself to make a strong showing in the general elections.
