The film, which delves into themes of power, rivalry, fertility and gender politics within a polygamous household, boasts an ensemble cast that includes Iyabo Ojo, Bimbo Ademoye and Omowunmi Dada.
Produced through a landmark collaboration with Nile Media Entertainment, Genesis Group and Silverbird Group, the project also marks EbonyLife’s highly anticipated return to Nigerian cinemas after several years away from the big screen.
Sharing the announcement on Instagram, Mo Abudu described the project as a major milestone for African storytelling. “BIG NEWS! Abudu further revealed that the unprecedented partnership between EbonyLife Group, Genesis Group, Nile Group and Silverbird Group is aimed at taking the powerful story to a global audience.
Author Lola Shoneyin, whose 2010 novel earned international acclaim for its bold social commentary, is attached to the film as a producer. The screenplay is being adapted by Adze Ugah, while Daniel Oriahi will direct the project.
Since its publication, The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives has been praised for its unflinching portrayal of marriage, female agency and societal expectations, cementing its place as one of modern African literature’s most influential works. The upcoming film adaptation is expected to bring the story’s emotional depth and cultural nuance to life on the big screen.
