Renowned indigenous gospel lyricist Matthew Omotola Jaiyeola, popularly known as Mr Gbera, has said his greatest fulfilment as a music minister lies in seeing his songs inspire, heal and restore hope in the lives of people.
Speaking recently, Gbera revealed that his journey into music began at a very young age in his father’s church. Over the years, he has grown into one of Nigeria’s most respected indigenous gospel artistes, with a reach that now extends far beyond the country’s borders.

According to the singer, testimonies of transformation and healing continue to pour in from listeners who encounter his music.
“There are many recorded testimonies, and they keep coming day by day,” he said. “I cannot forget a woman in Abeokuta who lost two of her children within a month and was ready to commit suicide. Her planned suicide was aborted through my songs.”

Gbera also recounted meeting a grieving man in Ikeja, Lagos, who had been consumed by sorrow after losing his twin children.
“Pastors, friends and family tried to help him, but all to no avail—until one fateful day when he stumbled upon my songs online, and that became his freedom,” he said.
While sharing these testimonies, the gospel singer repeatedly gave credit to God, describing divine inspiration as the foundation of his creativity and impact.
“My inspiration comes directly from God. I draw energy from the same source, and I am always happy and active in making positive impacts in the lives of people,” Gbera said.
He noted that his fan base has continued to grow across the world, with listeners often seeking personal encounters during his music ministrations.
“This light has spread to unimaginable lengths and breadths across the world. Sometimes fans and music lovers want to see us or meet us in person, and we cannot deny them that opportunity. I only travel to make more global impact,” he explained.
Gbera also praised Nigeria’s music industry, describing it as vibrant and increasingly influential on the global stage.
“The evidence is everywhere, and it will get even better than what we are seeing presently,” he added.
The music minister disclosed that he is currently working on new songs and collaborations with fellow artistes. While he enjoys performing his entire catalogue, he noted that certain tracks remain fan favourites.
“All my songs are great, and I love performing every one of them. However, based on requests and popularity, I often perform Iriri, Olorun Lo N’ Mumi Bo, and Alanu Lo Njagun Aye Mi, among others,” Gbera said.
For the gospel artiste, the mission remains clear: using music as a tool for healing, hope and spiritual transformation across the world.
