Huge Crowd Backs Obasa as APC Picks Him for Agege Reps Ticket

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives following a peaceful primary election held on Saturday in Agege.

The exercise attracted a massive turnout of party faithful and card-carrying APC members, who gathered in large numbers to validate Obasa’s candidacy, further reinforcing his strong grassroots influence within the constituency.

Obasa’s emergence comes barely days after he formally declared his intention to contest for the federal legislative seat during a stakeholders’ meeting held on May 13 in Agege.

Speaking at the meeting, the Lagos Assembly Speaker said his decision to vie for the House of Representatives position was in response to appeals from party leaders and stakeholders who believed he could deliver greater representation for the people of Agege at the national level.

“I answered the call of our leaders and stakeholders who believe I can serve Agege better. We must present candidates with capacity, loyalty, and commitment to the progress of Agege,” Obasa stated.

Following the conclusion of the primary, Obasa expressed appreciation to party members and leaders for the overwhelming confidence reposed in him.

“I am deeply humbled by the confidence reposed in me by our leaders and members. Today’s validation is not just about me; it is about our collective resolve to continue building Agege and Lagos State on the foundation of progress and development,” he said.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to people-oriented representation and inclusive governance.

“My commitment has always been to serve with integrity, to amplify the voices of our people, and to ensure that Agege continues to stand tall in the comity of constituencies. This validation strengthens my resolve to deliver more dividends of democracy,” he added.

Party officials commended the orderly and peaceful conduct of the exercise, describing it as a reflection of the unity and discipline within the APC structure in Agege.

Political observers also linked the development to Obasa’s earlier endorsement of Hon. Ganiyu Egunjobi for Agege Constituency I and Hon. Azeez Oladapo Yusuf Ninolowo for Agege Constituency II, describing the move as part of efforts to strengthen cohesion within the party ahead of the general elections.

With the successful completion of the primary process, Obasa is now set to represent the APC in the forthcoming general election, a development many believe could further consolidate the party’s dominance in Agege and its surrounding communities.
