The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement in Ogun State, Adekunle Akinlade, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari does not need Dapo Abiodun to win the presidential election in Ogun State.
Abiodun is the governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state.
Akinlade, however told the media in his hometown in Ipokia Local Government Area of the state, that the APM, which had adopted Buhari as its presidential candidate, would deliver the state for him.
“My President does not need Dapo Abiodun to win the election in Ogun. The APM will deliver Ogun State for Buhari.
“We know the people are with us and we believe that my adoption of the President’s candidacy won’t affect my governorship aspiration because what we need is to tell the people that we know what we are doing,” he said.
The governorship candidate also said he believed that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s decision to postpone the election earlier slated for last Saturday by a week was in the nation’s interest.
He said, “I want to believe strongly that the postponement would have been for the right reasons and in the best interest of our nation.
“A week is just six days from now and we have no doubt that all is well.
“For me, I have told my coordinators in all local governments to remain calm and trust the system.”
Akinlade, while commenting on the APM’s adoption of Buhari, said the fracas that occurred during the presidential campaign of the APC in the state was due to the party’s insensitivity to the will of the people.
He said, “We were there that day because we have adopted the President. He is our President and we must come out to show solidarity to him.
“But it is sad for them to come out at that point in time to insult the sensibility of our people.”
“What we believe as a people is that we need to speak and tell them that they cannot come to Ogun State and insult our sensibility by telling the people to their faces that ‘we have done what we have done to you and we are here to spit on your face again.’

“The party agreed over four years ago that the governorship of Ogun State in 2019 would be zoned to Ogun West and that was what Governor Ibikunle Amosun stood by.
“I emerged the consensus candidate from Ogun West and was presented to the party and to the governor. After that, Abiodun and some other aspirants from Ogun East insisted on direct primaries and we accepted as democrats and we went for the primaries and I won.”
