A nine-year old girl identified as Choice Izevbaye has been confirmed dead after a wall erected to support water pipes of a commercial borehole collapsed on her.
The incident occurred at house number 8, Osarehen Street, Off Powerline Road, Ogida Quarters in Egor local government.
Late Choice who is a primary three pupil was sent by her grandmother to buy water from the borehole.
The four feet high wall was said to have collapsed on her as she bent to scoop water from a bowl.
It was gathered that some suspected hoodlums who were angered by the death stormed the residence where the borehole is located and destroyed anything at sight.
Residents in the building fled for fear of being attacked.
Mother of the deceased, Reginald Eseiwi, said she was not at home when the incident occurred.
She accused the landlord and operator of the borehole, one Mr Osawe Edigin of negligence as according to her; the wall has been in bad condition for a long time.
The bereaved mother told newsmen that several complaints from residents in the area about the state of the wall was not heeded to by the owner.
She said some of her family members have been detained by the police followed allegation of malicious damage of property raised before the police by owner of the borehole.
A visit to the residence of Mr. Edigin showed that it has been deserted and its windows shattered.
Edo Police spokesman, DSP Moses Nkombe confirmed the tragedy and said the landlord and the water seller Mr Osawe Edigin has been arrested.
DSP Nkombe said the police are investigating possible negligence that occasioned the death of the little child adding that three members of the bereaved family were arrested over allegation of malicious damage on the resident of Mr Osawe Edigin.
It was learnt the corpse of the child was still in a mortuary.
