The internal crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East escalated on Monday after Senator Gbenga Daniel was denied access to a high-level senatorial meeting in Ijebu-Ode.
Daniel, who currently represents Ogun East in the 10th National Assembly and is eyeing another term, arrived at the Adeola Odutola Hall venue but was stopped from entering the meeting, reportedly convened to decide on the party’s senatorial ticket for the district.
The development underscores a growing power tussle between the senator and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, who is also believed to be positioning for the same Senate seat under the APC.

Once political allies, both figures are now locked in a fierce battle over control of the party’s structure in Ogun East. The rivalry has deepened in recent months, with Daniel accusing the state government of orchestrating moves to sideline him politically, including what he described as a controversial suspension by the APC state leadership.
A viral video circulating on Facebook captured the tense moment Daniel’s convoy was blocked at the entrance, as supporters gathered outside the venue urged party officials to grant him entry.

Speaking to his supporters at the gate, the senator said he arrived at the venue as early as 10:00 a.m. but was denied access to the caucus meeting.
“Today is our caucus meeting in Ijebu-Ode. I arrived early, but they told me I cannot go in,” Daniel said. “If any decisions are taken here without my participation, they will not stand. Let them carry on.”
As of the time this report was filed, the meeting was still ongoing without Daniel’s presence, raising questions about the legitimacy of any resolutions reached amid the deepening party divisions.
