Nigerian rapper Emeka Akumefule, widely known as Blaqbonez, has credited the enduring fan rivalry between Afrobeats heavyweights Wizkid and Davido as a key factor behind their sustained dominance in the music industry.
Speaking during a 2021 conversation with YouTuber Korty EO, Blaqbonez explained that the competitive energy between both artistes’ fan bases has kept them consistently in the spotlight for nearly two decades.
According to him, while Wizkid and Davido themselves may share mutual respect, the ongoing rivalry among their supporters continues to generate buzz, engagement, and heightened attention around their music releases.

He suggested that if both artistes were to publicly show excessive affection or unity, it could reduce the intensity that currently fuels their massive popularity.
Blaqbonez, who described himself as non-competitive, said he has no issue with rivalry in the music space, especially when it contributes to industry growth and visibility.

He summed it up by saying: “Wizkid and Davido can never fade. That rivalry is why they’ll remain relevant forever. If they start loving each other openly, it’s over. Love is for children—artists can love each other, but fans should not.”
