The All Progressives Congress has announced a fresh timetable for its primary elections in Zamfara State, rescheduling key National Assembly contests ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Saturday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, confirmed that the House of Representatives primary election will now take place on Monday, May 18, 2026, while the Senate primary has been moved to Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
According to the revised schedule, the State House of Assembly primary will hold on Wednesday, May 20, while the governorship primary is slated for Thursday, May 21, 2026. The party also maintained that its presidential primary election will proceed as earlier scheduled on Monday, May 23, 2026.

The ruling party further released dates for appeals arising from the various primaries. Appeals from the House of Representatives primary are expected to be heard on Tuesday, May 19, while Senate primary appeals will take place on Wednesday, May 20.
Similarly, appeals connected to the State House of Assembly primary have been fixed for Thursday, May 21, while governorship primary appeals are scheduled for Friday, May 22, 2026.

The APC did not provide reasons for the latest adjustment in the Zamfara primary timetable.
The development comes days after the party’s national leadership postponed its House of Representatives primaries nationwide by one day, shifting the exercise from Friday, May 15, to Saturday, May 16, 2026. At the time, the APC said the decision was due to logistical challenges, while dates for Senate, governorship, State Assembly and presidential primaries remained unchanged.
The rescheduling also follows growing unrest within the party across several states, as loyalists of President Bola Tinubuintensified consultations to avert internal divisions ahead of the primaries.
Reports of protests, failed consensus arrangements, allegations of candidate imposition and ongoing reconciliation efforts have continued to heighten tensions within the ruling party.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission timetable requires all political parties to conclude their primaries and resolve related disputes between April 23 and May 30, 2026, ahead of the 2027 elections.
Under the revised electoral schedule, presidential and National Assembly elections are expected to hold on January 16, 2027, while governorship and State House of Assembly polls are fixed for February 6, 2027.
