INEC Eyes Electoral Reforms in Ondo as Agboke Assumes Office as New REC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has signaled a new wave of electoral reforms in Ondo State following the appointment of Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke as the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC).

According to a statement issued by the Ondo State Administrative Secretary, Tadese Adenike, Dr. Agboke officially resumed duty on Monday, April 20, 2026.

The Commission described the new REC as a highly experienced professional with a strong background in both election administration and legal practice. His appointment, INEC noted, marks the beginning of a renewed phase in the management of elections within the state.

Dr. Agboke, a native of Abeokuta in Ogun State, was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006. He previously served with the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission from 2012 to 2016 and has held key electoral roles across Ondo, Oyo, and Osun states.

During his tenure in these states, he played a significant role in overseeing the conduct of the 2019 and 2023 general elections.

INEC emphasized that Agboke’s reputation for integrity, transparency, and professionalism is expected to strengthen public confidence and ensure the conduct of credible, free, and fair elections in Ondo State.
