Veteran broadcaster, diplomat, and former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr. Christopher Kolade, has died at the age of 92.
His family announced the passing of the elder statesman in a statement on Thursday, confirming that he died peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
“We are thankful for his incredible life of faith and service, and are grateful for God’s abundant blessings,” the family said in the statement.
Dr. Kolade, fondly remembered for his integrity, professionalism, and ethical leadership, had a long and distinguished career spanning broadcasting, corporate leadership, diplomacy, and academia.

Born on December 28, 1932, in Erin-Oke, Osun State, Kolade was the son of an Anglican missionary. He attended Government College, Ibadan, before proceeding to Fourah Bay College in Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he obtained his higher education.
Kolade began his professional journey in broadcasting, where he rose through the ranks to become Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) — the forerunner of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN). His tenure was marked by professionalism, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to public service ethics.
He later transitioned to the corporate world, serving as Chief Executive and Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, where he became widely respected for promoting ethical corporate governance and transparency. His leadership helped strengthen Cadbury’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s most trusted multinationals.
Dr. Kolade served Nigeria as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, representing the nation with distinction and grace. His diplomatic tenure was defined by quiet strength, intellectual depth, and a consistent advocacy for Nigeria’s image abroad.
Beyond public service, Kolade made a profound impact in academia. He taught Corporate Governance and Human Resources Management at the Lagos Business School, and Leadership and Conflict Management at the School of Media and Communication, both institutions within Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos.
He also served as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the university’s Governing Council, and later as Chancellor of McPherson University, Ogun State — roles in which he mentored a generation of leaders guided by ethics and excellence.
Deeply committed to advancing ethical standards in business and public life, Dr. Kolade chaired several integrity-focused organisations, including Integrity Organisation Ltd. GTE and The Convention on Business Integrity Ltd. GTE. Through these platforms, he championed accountability, transparency, and moral leadership in both the private and public sectors.
Dr. Christopher Kolade’s life was a testament to faith, discipline, and service. A consummate gentleman, he embodied the values of humility and integrity that earned him national and international respect.
He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
