‘There’s no money in our State’ – Gov Abiodun tells Ogun indigenes

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has said there is not enough funds in the state treasury to embark on some projects.

Abiodun, however, said his administration is making concerted efforts to boost the state’s internally generated revenue, so as to give the dividends of democracy to all and sundry.

The Governor was reacting to calls from Ogun indigenes to construct roads, to pay the N30,000 minimum wage and to increase the monthly allowances of Ogun pensioners among other demands.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Remmy Hassan, Abiodun said his administration is looking inwards to make money available for necessary projects.

While featuring on an Abeokuta radio station Friday, Hassan said Abiodun is mindful of the fact that Ogun indigenes would not listen to complaints of paucity of funds if infrastructures are not put in place.

He said despite the paucity of funds, the government would do everything in its power to generate funds for needed projects.

“At this time, there is no money. But that doesn’t foreclose the possibility of getting money. That’s why we are looking a lot more inward. Whatever needs to be done to make sure the money comes, we will do it, because at the end of the day, the people don’t care about how you get the money; they care about you putting infrastructure in place.

“At the end of the day, they will say this is what you have done, not about the complaint you have to give for not doing those things. We are mindful of that and I can assure the people of Ogun State that we will look inward, we are already looking inward to get our IGR shot up.”
