The Chief Executive Officer of Crystal Group, Hon. Mashood Mustapha, has confirmed a recent meeting with Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in Saudi Arabia, as speculation swirls around possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Sunday, Team MM acknowledged that the encounter took place but firmly rejected suggestions that either party was seeking favours or approaching the other from a position of weakness. “Any attempt to portray the engagement as one party seeking favours or going cap in hand to the other is entirely unfounded,” the statement said. “Such narratives are inaccurate, disrespectful to both leaders, and a disservice to the good people of Kwara State.”
The group described the meeting as a normal part of the democratic process during a political season marked by cross-party engagements and alignments. It noted that Hon. Mustapha, a prominent figure in Kwara politics and the Wakilin of Ilorin Emirate, had earlier held discussions with other political stakeholders in Abuja before travelling to Saudi Arabia. Those earlier meetings, Team MM observed, generated no controversy, making the intense speculation surrounding the governor’s encounter particularly surprising.
Team MM stressed that the Nigerian Constitution guarantees freedom of association and the right of every citizen to make personal political choices. “No individual should be condemned for exercising these constitutional rights,” the statement added. “Politics is ultimately about interests, principles, and the collective aspirations of the people.”
According to the group, Hon. Mustapha continues to prioritise the welfare of his supporters and the overall progress of Kwara State. The politician remains outside the country and has not yet taken any official position on the ongoing political permutations. Team MM emphasised that he will not make any major decision without careful consideration of his supporters’ interests and will ensure they are among the first to be informed when the time is right.
