Veteran Nollywood stars Sola Sobowale and Kanayo O. Kanayo have been honoured with the Industry Merit Award at the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards held on Friday at Eko Hotel and Suites.
The recognition celebrated their decades-long contributions to Nollywood and their enduring influence as two of the industry’s most respected actors.
In her acceptance speech, Sobowale expressed gratitude to God, the organisers of the awards, her colleagues, fans, and her children for their unwavering support throughout her acting journey. She described the honour as proof of her continued relevance in the entertainment industry and assured fans that she still has more to offer.
“I want to specially thank God Almighty for keeping me till this day to receive this honour. I thank my children, my colleagues, and my fans because without you, there is no Shola. Thank you all for making me remain relevant. Expect more from me,” she said.
Kanayo, while receiving his award, dedicated the recognition to filmmakers and creatives across Africa. He also highlighted the role of the entertainment industry in fostering unity and cultural connection across the continent.
The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards remains one of Africa’s biggest platforms celebrating excellence in film, television, and digital content creation.
