Speaking after the council meeting on Tuesday, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Development, Dr. Abubakar Zayanna, explained that the adjustment was designed to deliver a more efficient and intentional budgeting process.

The total 2025 budget of ₦526.88 billion remains unchanged.
However, Sokoto budget amendment reallocates ₦38.81 billion from under-utilised areas to more critical sectors.

“All we did was move funds from one code to another,” Zayanna clarified. “This reallocation ensures funds are directed to performing sectors and helps avoid wastage tied to dormant projects.”
This shift, he added, is expected to raise budget performance to as high as 80 percent by the end of the year—driving stronger results for the people of the state.
In tandem with the financial restructuring, the council also greenlit reconstruction of key roads, including Ali-Akilu and Abdullahi Podi Roads.
These flood-prone areas will now receive urgent attention to enhance water flow and mitigate environmental damage.
The Sokoto budget amendment will be submitted to the State House of Assembly for legislative approval and legalisation before implementation begins.
