Vice President Kashim Shettima has confirmed that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri will automatically assume leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State following his defection to the party.
Shettima made the clarification during a grand reception held in Yola, where Fintiri was formally received into the APC alongside a large number of his supporters.
The announcement puts to rest speculations over who would control the party structure in the state, amid suggestions that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, could emerge as leader.
Drawing comparisons with other states, Shettima explained that sitting governors typically lead party structures within their domains. He cited Babagana Zulum in Borno State and Caleb Mutfwang in Plateau State as examples of governors who head their respective state party structures regardless of other high-ranking party figures.
Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the event, Shettima commended Fintiri’s developmental strides, noting that his administration’s projects were evident upon arrival in Yola.
Fintiri, in his remarks, reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the APC in Adamawa, revealing that he had already convinced former ADC governorship candidate, Abdulazeez Nyako, to rejoin the party on March 22. He also pledged to bring more political heavyweights into the APC fold.
The high-profile reception took place at Mahmud Ribadu Square and drew key party stakeholders, including governors led by Hope Uzodinma, deputy governors, National Executive Committee members, and other prominent APC figures.
