Reps Summon AGF Ogunjimi Over ₦1.32bn Allocation to ‘Non-Existent’ Agency

The Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, is expected to appear before the House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the controversial ₦1.32 billion budgetary allocation to the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) on Monday, July 27, 2027.

The committee, chaired by Yusuf Gagdi, is probing how the PFIPC, which the Federal Government has described as a non-existent agency, was allocated funds in the 2026 Appropriation Act and allegedly secured office accommodation at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja despite lacking legal recognition.

During the hearing, Ogunjimi is expected to explain how the PFIPC obtained a government budget code, enabling it to be captured in the 2026 federal budget.

Lawmakers are also expected to seek clarification on the procedures through which the council was introduced into the government’s budgetary framework and the basis for approving funds for its operations.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the committee has already questioned several top government officials, including the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack; the Director of Banking Services at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Abdullahi Hamisu; and the Director-General of the Budget Office, Tanimu Yakubu.

The probe intensified following the arrest of Adeyemi Adeniyi, who allegedly impersonated the Director-General of the PFIPC.

Adeniyi was also accused of claiming that he paid ₦400 million through an intermediary to the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to secure the appointment.

However, both the Presidency and Gbajabiamila have denied any association with Adeniyi, describing him as an impostor and distancing themselves from the PFIPC and the allegations surrounding its activities.

The committee is expected to continue its investigation with appearances by other senior government officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele; and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi.
