The Anglican Bishop of Oyo South Missionary Diocese, Olufemi Ebenezer Familoni, has commended the administration of Seyi Makinde for what he described as remarkable infrastructural development across parts of Oyo State, particularly within Ibadan metropolis.
Speaking during the Presidential Charge at the maiden synod of the diocese held at Cathedral Church of St. John, the bishop urged the state government to extend similar developmental projects to rural communities across the state. The synod was themed, “A Renewed Mind.”
Familoni praised the governor for his commitment to growth and transformation, noting that ongoing improvements in roads, urban renewal, and rehabilitation of public infrastructure have positively impacted transportation, commerce, and the overall outlook of the state capital.
“We laud Governor Seyi Makinde for his efforts and dedication to the growth and development of Oyo State. The transformation witnessed in parts of Ibadan, especially in road infrastructure and urban renewal, has significantly improved the city,” he said.
The cleric, however, stressed the need for balanced development, reminding the government that communities outside the capital city also deserve equal attention. According to him, several towns, particularly in Afijio Local Government Area and other rural communities, continue to face serious infrastructural deficits, including poor roads and lack of access to potable water.
“In the spirit of fairness, inclusiveness, and balanced governance, it is important to remember that every community contributed to the mandate of this administration and should feel the impact of governance,” Familoni stated.
He also called for greater autonomy for local governments, describing councils as critical drivers of grassroots development and community-based governance. The bishop appealed for the timely release of funds to local authorities to enable them to effectively carry out their responsibilities.
Familoni added that equitable development remains both a moral obligation and a reflection of responsible leadership. He prayed for wisdom, strength, and grace for the governor to complete his tenure with a legacy of fairness, inclusiveness, and sustainable development across all parts of Oyo State.
