Olori Esho’s murder case leads to Lagos court remand of Wasiu Akinwande over multiple killings, arms possession, and cult violence pending legal advice
Olori Esho’s murder case took a grave turn on Tuesday as a Lagos Magistrate Court in Ikeja ordered the remand of 44-year-old Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Esho, at Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

Magistrate Mobolaji Tanimola mandated a 30-day remand period while the case awaits legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Esho is facing an 11-count charge, including multiple murder, attempted murder, conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms, and cult-related violence. These charges were brought against him by the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the prosecuting officer, Nosa Uhumwangho, the Olori Esho murder case spans over a decade, with alleged crimes committed between December 2010 and April 2025 in Mushin, Idi-Araba, Surulere, and Fadeyi areas of Lagos.

Police allege that Esho was unlawfully in possession of an AK-47 rifle, with which he fatally shot Yusuf Bolakale (30) and Yusuf Ramadan (23) at 11 Mosalashi Street, Mushin. He was later arrested in the Alagbado area after fleeing the scene.
In another incident cited by the prosecution, the suspect allegedly shot and killed 10-year-old Aminat Lateef in 2010 at Tiamiyu Street, Fadeyi, while she was running an errand.
More recently, on July 31, 2024, Esho allegedly participated in a deadly clash between rival cult groups, resulting in the deaths of six individuals, including persons identified only as Anyila and Ojajo.

The court has adjourned the matter pending further legal proceedings.
