Ogun Governor Secures Senatorial Ticket, Dominates APC Primary Across All LGAs

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Ogun East Senatorial District, held on Monday.

Abiodun secured a commanding 75,550 votes out of 99,503 cast, cementing his position as the party’s candidate for the upcoming senatorial election. The results were officially announced by Dr. Wale Bello, Chief Returning Officer for the Ogun East Senatorial District.

Former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel garnered 398 votes, while Bukola Braimoh managed 29 votes, reflecting Abiodun’s overwhelming popularity.

A closer look at the local government breakdown shows Abiodun’s dominance:

  • Sagamu LGA: 8,434 votes (Abiodun), 0 (Daniel), 7 (Braimoh)
  • Ijebu North East LGA: 5,655 votes (Abiodun), 12 (Daniel), 17 (Braimoh)
  • Ikenne LGA: 8,226 votes for Abiodun; Daniel and Braimoh scored zero
  • Remo North LGA: 7,034 votes (Abiodun)
  • Ijebu-Ode LGA: 10,942 votes (Abiodun)

Abiodun also dominated Ogun Waterside, Odogbolu, Ijebu East, and Ijebu North LGAs, winning in every polling unit.

Dr. Bello praised party members for the peaceful conduct of the exercise, calling the process “unparalleled” and lauding the electorate for maintaining order throughout the election.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Abiodun thanked APC members and residents for their trust. He pledged to provide quality representation and recalled that he had previously contested for the same senatorial seat 29 years ago, winning but never being sworn in.

Abiodun expressed gratitude to God for his eventual victory in the 2019 governorship election and commended security agencies, INEC officials, party loyalists, and his aides for their support during the primary.
