Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has issued a stern warning to dissident members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over what he described as false narratives surrounding the party’s House of Assembly primaries conducted across wards in Agege Local Government on Wednesday, May 20.
The warning came as thousands of APC members and stakeholders gathered at the Agege Stadium on Thursday, May 21, to affirm Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, as the party’s consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared former Agege Local Government Chairman, High Chief Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, winner of the APC primary for Agege Constituency I with 10,126 votes, while Barrister Azeez Oladapo Ninalowo emerged victorious in Agege Constituency II with 12,455 votes.

Both candidates had earlier been adopted as consensus aspirants during a caucus meeting presided over by Obasa on Tuesday.
Addressing party supporters at the rally, Obasa insisted that the primaries were conducted transparently and in line with party guidelines.

“We’ve done everything according to the dictates of the party. Dr. Obafemi Kadiri Hamzat is our governorship candidate. Senator Idiat Adebule is our candidate in the Lagos West Senatorial District, and Mudashiru Obasa is the candidate for Agege Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives,” he declared.
“Collectively, we have decided and we are standing by the decision of our members.”
The Speaker commended INEC and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful exercise, describing the process as free, fair, and devoid of violence.
He also praised APC loyalists in Agege for their consistency and commitment to party activities, taking a swipe at aggrieved members who allegedly distanced themselves from the primaries.
“You can’t be absent from all primaries and still claim that you are with us,” Obasa said. “We have conducted House of Representatives, Senate, House of Assembly, and Governorship primaries, yet some disgruntled party members have consistently stayed away. They are not part of us.”
Obasa further stressed the importance of loyalty and continuity within the party’s political structure, describing Agege as a model of grassroots political organisation in Lagos State.
“Nothing was done by subterfuge; everything was done in the open. INEC, DSS, Police, the media, and party leaders were all present. There’s nothing to fear,” he added.
He challenged critics disputing the outcome of the primaries to seek legal redress rather than spread misinformation.
“If anybody is initiating fake reports, let them continue. Anybody who has a problem should go and challenge the result in court,” Obasa stated.
With the endorsement of Hamzat and a firm stance against internal opposition, the APC leadership in Agege appears determined to project unity and discipline as the party begins positioning itself for the 2027 Lagos governorship election.
