Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Opens Up on Years of Pain Over Childbirth Delay, Welcomes Twin Princes

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has spoken candidly about the emotional struggles, public criticism, and pressure he endured over delays in having children after ascending the throne.

In a statement released on Saturday in Ile-Ife by the palace’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, the monarch revealed that he faced ridicule from some members of the public during the difficult period.

The Ooni made the remarks while receiving well-wishers who visited the palace to celebrate the birth of twin princes by one of his wives, Queen Mariam.

Expressing gratitude, the royal father said the birth of the twins was a testimony to divine intervention.

“I thank God today. There is nothing God cannot do,” the monarch stated while celebrating the latest addition to the royal family.

Reflecting on his personal life, the Ooni disclosed that he never imagined growing up to marry multiple wives, noting that the customs and responsibilities attached to the throne significantly reshaped his marital journey.

According to him, life after becoming the Ooni of Ife came with unexpected challenges and mysteries, especially the pressure to quickly settle into royal family responsibilities.

The monarch also recounted efforts made by respected traditional rulers and influential figures to persuade one of his former wives to relocate to Ile-Ife, though the attempts were unsuccessful.

Sharing memories from his younger years, Oba Ogunwusi revealed that he became a father at the age of 19, describing the experience as overwhelming at the time.

He credited his mother for encouraging him to stay focused, hardworking, and determined despite the challenges he faced early in life.

The royal father further expressed appreciation to Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for her encouragement and support through difficult moments, describing her as a mother figure.

He also thanked visitors and supporters for their prayers and goodwill, adding that the mother of the twins conveyed her appreciation to everyone who stood by the family.

Earlier, the Chief Imam of Ifeland, Abdulsemiu Abdulhammed, said members of the Muslim community and other well-wishers visited the palace to celebrate the joyful development.

“We have come to rejoice with Kabiyesi. It is God who makes a person laugh,” the cleric said.
