The Oyo State wing of the Nigerian Union of Teachers has elected a new set of executives to steer the affairs of the union for the next four years.
The election took place on Wednesday during the union’s 8th Quadrennial Delegates Conference held in Ibadan.
Speaking at the opening session, the National President of the union, Titus Audu Amba, said the NUT remains committed to democratic principles and the ideals of organised labour.
Represented by the National Social Secretary, Titi Ade Adebanjo, Amba explained that the union conducts elections at national, state and local levels at the expiration of every tenure, noting that the Oyo State election was due in May 2026.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the union to improving teachers’ welfare and enhancing teaching and learning conditions across Nigeria.
In his farewell remarks, the outgoing chairman, Raji Oladimeji Ismael, highlighted achievements recorded between 2022 and 2026, including improved welfare packages, prompt payment of salaries, promotion arrears, annual increments and interventions in pension-related matters.

According to him, the union also addressed cases involving victimisation, wrongful postings and salary stoppages through its legal and welfare committees.
He added that sustained advocacy by the union led to the recruitment of additional teaching and non-teaching staff, easing workloads and improving teacher-to-pupil ratios in schools across the state.
Raji further disclosed that the union facilitated delayed promotions, organised training programmes for members and mentorship sessions for young teachers.
On infrastructure, he said the union completed several projects, including the renovation of the State Secretariat, establishment of NUT Model Schools, construction of classrooms, expansion of the Resource Centre and development of an Olympic-size sports complex.
Other projects, according to him, included reconstruction of the access road to the State Secretariat, procurement of customised Ankara materials for teachers and organisation of statewide quiz competitions.
Despite challenges such as rising living costs, inadequate facilities and insecurity in some communities, the outgoing chairman expressed confidence in the ability of the incoming leadership to build on existing achievements.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman, Hassan Ajibola Fatai, pledged to work closely with members and stakeholders to reposition the union and improve members’ welfare.
Fatai, a teacher at Migrant Farmers Primary School, Igbo-Iroko, Kishi, also vowed to uphold the integrity, dignity and professionalism of the teaching profession in Oyo State.
Other elected officials include Adeleke Adesina as deputy chairman, Alonge Oluyemisi as first vice chairman, Morakinyo Oyebola as second vice chairman and Badmus Abiona as third vice chairman.
Others are Bello Folasade, Titilolu Ibukunolu, Dada Kabirat, Akinjide Yusuf and Ajala Niyi.
Also elected were Alao Femi as social secretary, Areo Felicia, Mobolaji Ademola and James Ruth.
