Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on Nigerians to reject hatred, intolerance and division as Muslims across the country commemorate Eid-el-Maulud, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

Shettima, in a goodwill message to the Muslim community and Nigerians, urged citizens to draw inspiration from the Prophet’s teachings on mercy, humility, justice, patience and service to humanity.

According to him, the occasion provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the values that promote peaceful coexistence, compassion and national unity.

“The life of the Prophet remains an enduring lesson in mercy, humility, justice, patience and service to humanity. He taught us that true strength is found in compassion, that leadership must be guided by fairness, and that our faith is best expressed in the way we treat one another,” Shettima said.

The Vice President said the values taught by the Prophet were particularly important as Nigeria continues its development under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He urged Nigerians to look beyond their religious, ethnic and social differences and work together towards building a peaceful and prosperous nation.

Shettima described Nigeria’s diversity as one of its greatest strengths, stressing the importance of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence among citizens from different backgrounds.

“Our diversity remains one of Nigeria’s greatest strengths. We must continue to build a country where people of every faith and background can live together in peace, dignity and mutual respect,” he said.

The Vice President also urged Nigerians to use the celebration to show kindness to the less privileged, support vulnerable citizens and extend compassion to their neighbours and communities.

He stressed that commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad should go beyond celebration and remembrance, urging Muslims and other Nigerians to reflect the Prophet’s teachings in their daily lives.

“As we celebrate, I urge Nigerians to remember those in need and to extend kindness to our neighbours and communities. The true spirit of this occasion lies not only in remembrance, but in reflecting the Prophet’s example in our daily lives,” Shettima said.

He prayed for lasting peace, prosperity and divine guidance for Nigeria and its citizens.

“May Almighty Allah accept our prayers, grant our nation lasting peace and prosperity, and guide us all on the path of righteousness. Eid Mubarak,” he added.
