Nigerian Army reaffirms loyalty to President Tinubu, condemning calls for military takeover amid socio-economic challenges in Nigeria.

Amid rising economic hardship and calls from some quarters for a military intervention in Nigeria, the Nigerian Army has firmly rejected any notion of a coup or military takeover.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, expressed the Army’s stance in a statement on Monday, emphasising its loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and commitment to democracy.

With growing socio-economic challenges, some Nigerians have voiced dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the crisis, and calls for a coup surfaced in a recent viral video.

Addressing these concerns, Gusau clarified that the Nigerian Army remains dedicated to protecting the country’s democratic framework.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria is steadfastly committed to the preservation and advancement of our democracy and remain loyal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The military is focused on fulfilling its statutory responsibilities, including safeguarding the nation’s integrity,” Gusau stated, underscoring the Army’s firm opposition to any unconstitutional actions.

Gusau also reminded citizens that advocating for a military takeover constitutes treason under the Constitution. He highlighted that the Army and other security agencies would act decisively against individuals or groups calling for unconstitutional changes in Nigeria.

“The relative peace being enjoyed today is a direct result of the President’s support for the military and the dedication of the Armed Forces’ leadership,” he noted, pointing to the continued stability and security that the military provides across the nation.

The Army’s statement reinforces its commitment to strengthening democracy, vowing to uphold its duties and focus on safeguarding Nigeria’s peace and sovereignty under Tinubu’s administration.
