The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised Deputy Governor Kadri Hamzat’s newly released 2027 agenda, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of failing to address key challenges confronting residents despite being in power since 2019.
The document, titled “Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat 2027 Agenda: The Plan to Organise Lagos,” outlines proposals on issues including water supply, flooding, traffic management, waste disposal, housing and security.
However, the PDP argued that the agenda amounted to an admission that the APC-led administration had failed to adequately tackle the challenges during its years in office.
The opposition party made its position known in a statement dated August 7, 2026, and signed by its Lagos State Publicity Secretary, Prince Dr Christopher Odianarewo.
The PDP questioned why Hamzat, who has served as deputy governor alongside Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu since 2019, was unveiling plans to address problems that, according to the opposition, should have been resolved during his tenure.
The party said the document raised questions about the performance of the current administration, stressing that Hamzat is an incumbent and not an opposition candidate seeking to introduce new policies.
“What immediately stands out is not the abundance of promises, but the glaring admission that the All Progressives Congress has spectacularly failed Lagosians despite occupying the offices of Governor and Deputy Governor since 2019,” the PDP said.
The opposition party argued that if Hamzat’s proposed blueprint could transform Lagos into a safer, better-organised, flood-free and prosperous city, there was no reason to wait until the 2027 election cycle to implement the ideas.
It accused the APC of repeatedly unveiling ambitious policy documents and campaign promises during election periods while many of the same challenges continued to affect residents.
The PDP listed flooding, inadequate access to pipe-borne water, traffic congestion, poor waste management, unaffordable housing, security concerns and alleged harassment among the issues it said remained unresolved.
It also claimed that residents and businesses continued to struggle with inadequate infrastructure and multiple taxation.
According to the PDP, Hamzat should be presenting a record of achievements from his years in office rather than introducing another set of promises for the future.
“It is intellectually dishonest for an administration that has been in power for years to seek applause for identifying problems it has failed to solve,” the statement said.
The party maintained that effective governance should be assessed through implementation and measurable results rather than policy documents and public consultations.
It urged Lagos residents to evaluate political parties based on their records ahead of the 2027 elections.
The PDP further accused the APC of “organising excuses” instead of delivering on its promises and called for what it described as genuine political change in Lagos.
The opposition party insisted that residents would no longer be persuaded by what it described as recycled promises.
