The One Million Residents Community Empowerment Committee in Kano State has announced plans to launch a grassroots empowerment programme championed by the Asiwaju Yoruba of Kano, Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide.

The initiative is designed to strengthen grassroots support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda while creating economic opportunities for residents across the state.

The committee, chaired by Alhaji Sulaiman Jimoh and with Hon. Seyi Olorunsola as Secretary, said the programme would focus on youths, women, entrepreneurs, artisans, small business owners and other members of the community.

The announcement followed the inauguration of a 21-member committee saddled with coordinating the planning, mobilisation and implementation of the initiative.

The organisers said the programme would extend beyond political mobilisation by promoting economic empowerment and improving community participation.

“This is not simply about politics; it is about people. Leadership becomes meaningful when it creates opportunities, empowers families and gives ordinary citizens hope for a better tomorrow,” the committee said.

According to the committee, the initiative would deepen engagement with communities, promote economic empowerment and encourage greater participation in the democratic process.

Abejide, who represents Yagba Federal Constituency of Kogi State in the House of Representatives, said his involvement in the Kano initiative was influenced by his longstanding relationship with the state.

The lawmaker, who is serving his second term and seeking re-election in 2027, said he began his business career in Kano, where he established lasting relationships before returning to Kogi State to pursue a political career.

Abejide, who chairs the House Committee on Customs and Excise, is also a supporter of President Tinubu and has backed the Renewed Hope Agenda as a pathway to Nigeria’s economic growth and prosperity.

The newly inaugurated 21-member committee is expected to work with community leaders and relevant groups across Kano State to coordinate the programme and ensure that its benefits reach intended beneficiaries.

The flag-off ceremony is expected to draw community leaders, youths, women, entrepreneurs, political stakeholders and residents from across the state.

Jimoh urged residents and stakeholders to support the initiative, stressing that grassroots empowerment should remain a key component of political engagement.

“As Nigeria continues its journey under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, grassroots empowerment must remain at the centre of political engagement,” he said.
