Ile-Ife Clash: Court Grants Oba Ademiluyi, Other Suspects Bail

Justice Kudirat Akano of the Osun State High Court has granted the bail application of Oba Ademola Ademiluyi, Pastor Taiwo Fakowajo and four other suspects arrested in connection with the clash that happened between Hausa and Yoruba communities in Ile Ife on March 8.
THEWILL recalls that the suspects were arrested and paraded by the police shortly after the violence that erupted between Hausa and Yoruba which left about 46 persons dead.
In her ruling at the resumed hearing of the matter on Friday, the judge granted their formal application for bail, which was filed in May.
This was after the defence counsel, Mr. Wale Olawoyin and the Police counsel, Simon Lough had argued the bail on Wednesday.
The applicants are expected to meet a condition of N5 million each and a surety of a level 14 office or a monarch to perfect their bail conditions.
The suspects have been in prison custody since April 28 when the judge ordered that they be remanded.
A total of 38 people were initially arrested as a result of the clash in the ancient town but only 20 of them, including the Oba who are all Yorubas were paraded at Abuja Force Headquarters of the police.
Fifteen out of a total of 21 indigenes arrested were first released unconditionally on April 14 to a member of the defense lawyers, Mr Ropo Oyewole.
