Edo State Government begins profiling property owners in the New City Development Area (formerly Coral City) from June 3-13, 2025, for document verification and eventual C of O issuance, aiming to resolve land disputes

The Edo State Government has commenced a comprehensive profiling exercise for property owners within the New City Development Area, previously known as Coral City.

This initiative aims to verify ownership and resolve long-standing land disputes in the rapidly expanding urban centre.

A statement issued on Sunday, June 1, 2025, by Dr. Abdulwasiu Oyakhire, the Secretary to the Edo State Committee on Land Dispute Resolution, urged all property owners in Lot-A and Lot-B of the designated area to present their relevant documents for verification.

The exercise is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, June 3, and will run through Friday, June 13, 2025.

According to the statement, the profiling will be conducted directly on-site by relevant state agencies and will take place simultaneously in both Lot-A and Lot-B sections of the New City Development.

Other sections are expected to undergo similar processes in subsequent phases.

On June 3, the state government will commence a profiling exercise for property owners in the New City Development Area, formerly known as Coral City.

The statement further clarified the requirements for property owners: “Affected property owners are expected to present their survey plans. In cases where surveys are unavailable, accurate property coordinates will be accepted, with government-assigned surveyors available on the ground to assist.”

This crucial initiative follows a recent peace-building meeting convened by Governor Monday Okpebholo with leaders from the Oke-Oroma, Obagie, and Amagba communities at the Government House, Benin City.

During the meeting, Governor Okpebholo emphasized the imperative for all stakeholders to submit their documents to the verification committee.

The ultimate goal of this process is for profiling, authentication, and eventual regularisation, which will lead to the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O).

Governor Okpebholo used the meeting to reaffirm his administration’s unwavering commitment to restoring lasting peace and fostering harmonious coexistence among residents in the area.

He stressed that such harmony was vital for the overall development and progress of the city.
