Asiwaju Carlo Babatunde Sonupe has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his bold leadership and reform-driven agenda in his first two years in office, describing the administration’s efforts as transformative for Nigeria’s economic, infrastructural, and security landscape.
Sonupe made this known during a solidarity visit to the Director General of The Grassroot Movement for Asiwaju , where he expressed strong support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid. He acknowledged that while some policies have posed short-term difficulties, they are critical steps toward long-term national development.
Citing key reforms such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the foreign exchange market, Sonupe noted that these measures have enabled the federal government to redirect funds to vital sectors like education, healthcare, and infrastructure. According to him, these reforms have also led to a 50% drop in fuel importation and increased investor confidence—positioning the Nigerian Stock Exchange as the world’s top-performing market in recent times.
Joined by a delegation of youths and representatives of professional and civil society groups, Sonupe also highlighted the increase in government revenue under the Tinubu administration. He reaffirmed his resolve to campaign vigorously for the President’s re-election , stating, “president Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not dissappinted us having paid all the IMF loan being owed by nation which was a huge concern hitherto”
He extended his gratitude to the party leadership for maintaining unity in Alimosho—a populous area that began significant development under President Tinubu’s tenure as Governor of Lagos State. Sonupe emphasized that Alimosho owes much of its progress to Tinubu’s vision.
Paying tribute to local leaders, he applauded the motherly leadership of Her Excellency Princess Adejoke Orelope Adefulire and the unifying role of Honourable Bisi Yusuf, stressing that “together as a bunch of broom, we can achieve great things.”
In his response, Honourable Bisi Yusuf commended Sonupe for his unwavering loyalty and dedication. He reaffirmed Tinubu’s record of leadership and listed additional achievements including:
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway – a 700-km highway set to drive economic integration across regions;
Port Harcourt Refinery Rehabilitation – part of the administration’s strategy for energy security;
Student Loan Scheme – providing financial assistance to students from low-income families, with over 500,000 applications received to date.
Sonupe concluded by stating that President Tinubu’s first two years have laid a solid foundation for national renewal. A second term, he said, would allow for the consolidation of reforms and the realization of enduring benefits for all Nigerians.
