The Magistrate Court sitting in Sagamu, Ogun State, has adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver of the Lexus sport utility vehicle (SUV) involved in the crash linked to heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua, to February 25, 2026.
Kayode appeared before the court on Tuesday, January 20, as proceedings resumed in the matter. During the hearing, prosecuting counsel, Richard Nigiwe, informed the court that three out of the four prosecution witnesses were present.

Those in attendance were officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, popularly known as the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO).
However, counsel to the defendant, Abiodun Olalekan, requested an adjournment until March, explaining that the defence needed time to duplicate the case file and forward it to the Ogun State Attorney-General through the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

The request was opposed by the defence counsel, who argued that the presence of three prosecution witnesses made it appropriate for the trial to commence without further delay.
Ruling on the matter, the presiding magistrate, Somefun, held that the case should be adjourned to February 25 to allow the prosecution seek the required legal advice. The court also ordered that the case file be duplicated and transmitted to the Ogun State Attorney-General’s office.
The matter was subsequently adjourned.
