Bobrisky Phyna VDM controversy has stirred online debate after Nigerian socialite Bobrisky, born Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, criticized Phyna, the Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, over her handling of her sister’s tragic death.

Phyna’s sister, Ruth Otabor, recently passed away following severe injuries from a road accident involving a Dangote truck in Auchi, Edo State.
While public sympathy poured in, the matter took a new turn when controversial activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) got involved—an action Bobrisky now claims was a “huge mistake.”
“The mistake that girl made was to go to VeryDarkMan. You should have just used your page and voice out. Let Nigeria hear you. Your page is enough,” Bobrisky said in a now-viral video.
According to Bobrisky, VDM’s involvement shifted focus away from the core issue and has complicated the case unnecessarily.
She cited his past involvement in the Mohbad death saga, arguing that public discourse was similarly derailed.
“The same thing he did during Mohbad. We don’t see front, we don’t see back. The moment he puts his mouth in the Mohbad case, everything went sour,” Bobrisky added.
She accused VDM of turning sensitive cases into chaotic public spectacles, rather than helping resolve them. Bobrisky emphasized that Phyna, who already has a massive online platform, could have effectively amplified her voice without third-party interference.
Her comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with some agreeing that VDM often brings controversy, while others defended his activism as necessary in holding powerful institutions accountable.
