Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State, Kayode Ajulo, has paid an emotional tribute to elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, ahead of his 100th birthday celebration on May 11, 2026.
In a heartfelt message commemorating the centenary of the revered Yoruba leader, Ajulo described Fasoranti as a symbol of integrity, progressive politics, and national unity whose influence has shaped generations of Nigerians.
According to Ajulo, Fasoranti’s life embodies the enduring values of late sage Obafemi Awolowo, particularly in education, selfless service, and principled leadership. He noted that the Afenifere patriarch remained steadfast in defending democratic ideals and the Yoruba cause throughout Nigeria’s turbulent political history.
Born in Uso near Akure, Ondo State, Fasoranti began his career in education as a teacher and principal before venturing into politics. Ajulo recalled that the elder statesman later served as Finance Commissioner under the administration of former Ondo State Governor, Michael Adekunle Ajasin, where he earned a reputation for discipline and prudent management of public resources.
Ajulo also praised Fasoranti’s leadership role within Afenifere, describing him as a consistent voice of wisdom and stability in Yoruba politics. He further acknowledged the elder statesman’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which he said reflected Fasoranti’s belief in progressive governance and democratic continuity.
Reflecting on his personal relationship with the nonagenarian leader, Ajulo recounted how Fasoranti maintained a fatherly bond with him despite political disagreements during the era of the Afenifere Renewal Group led by the late Yinka Odumakin.
He said Fasoranti consistently demonstrated forgiveness, reconciliation, and inclusiveness, even after members of the group later returned to the mainstream fold of Afenifere.
Ajulo further described Fasoranti as a bridge-builder whose relationships transcended ethnic and regional boundaries, citing his friendship with late Niger Delta leader Edwin Kiagbodo Clark as evidence of his pan-Nigerian outlook.
“At 100, Baba Fasoranti remains a living symbol of wisdom, truth, equity, and unwavering service to humanity,” Ajulo stated. “He is not only a leader but a living heritage whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.”
The Ondo Attorney General concluded with prayers for Fasoranti’s continued strength, peace, and divine grace as he marks the historic milestone.
