The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially endorsed the report of the Anambra State Governorship primary election, confirming Nicholas Ukachukwu as their candidate for the November 8 election.

This decision, announced following the National Working Committee’s (NWC) meeting on Wednesday, comes amidst strong protests from fellow aspirant Valentine Ozigbo, who labeled the primary a “fraud and charade.”

National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, in a statement to journalists, declared the primary a “fair, credible, and transparent election.” The statement also urged all stakeholders, particularly the other aspirants and their supporters, to unite and work towards securing the party’s victory in the upcoming governorship election.

“The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, considered and approved the report of the Party’s Anambra State Governorship Primary Election,” the statement read.

“The Primary Election Committee, under the Chairmanship of Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Bassey Otu, in its report, declared Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu the winner of the election with 1,455 votes.”

APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje praised the Bassey Otu-led committee for delivering a fair election and presented Ukachukwu with the Certificate of Return, charging all stakeholders to work for the party’s victory.

However, the primary’s outcome has been contested by Valentine Ozigbo, who recently defected from the Labour Party to the APC. Ozigbo, who secured 67 votes compared to Ukachukwu’s 1,455, has lodged a complaint with the party’s Appeals Committee, alleging that the election was a “fraud and charade.” This Anambra APC primary election is causing a political divide.

The primary, which began on Saturday, saw Johnbosco Onunkwo garner 26 votes and Edozie Madu receive eight votes, with 26 invalid votes. The APC’s endorsement of Ukachukwu sets the stage for a potentially contentious campaign leading up to the November election.
