APC chieftain Illyasu Kwankwaso blasts El-Rufai over Tinubu 2027 election claims, says president will secure landslide reelection with northern support

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, Dr. Illyasu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s prediction that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will place third in the 2027 presidential election, describing him as “a blatant liar and frustrated politician.”

In a statement released on Monday, the two-time Kano State commissioner and current Executive Director (Finance) at Hadejia Jama’are, accused El-Rufai of resorting to falsehood to regain political relevance.

Kwankwaso insisted that Tinubu’s achievements in security and economic reforms so far point to a “landslide victory” in 2027.

“You (El Rufai) cannot disparage or edge out President Tinubu from the 2027 race the way you tried with former President Jonathan in 2015, using insecurity, poverty, and economic challenges as tools,” Kwankwaso said.

He praised the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for “gradually eradicating insecurity” and urged El-Rufai to provide evidence for his claims that the administration was sponsoring banditry or remain silent.

Kwankwaso further alleged that El-Rufai was attempting to incite northern Nigerians against the Tinubu government, but stressed that northerners are already witnessing improvements in security across Birnin Gwari, Sokoto, Borno, and other states.

The APC chieftain also attacked opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, calling them a “coalition of failures” unable to challenge Tinubu’s leadership.

He reminded Nigerians that El-Rufai was part of the Buhari administration, which left behind economic hardship and insecurity, including a sharp rise in the naira-dollar exchange rate.

Kwankwaso concluded by predicting overwhelming northern support for Tinubu in 2027:

“President Tinubu stood firm and won in 2023 with 8 million votes. This time, with Northern support, I assure you, he will win by a landslide with 15 million votes.”
