After Nigeria defeated South Africa 4-2 on penalties to reach the Africa Cup of Nations final, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, congratulated the Super Eagles for their “great fighting spirit” and determination.

“Today was yet another victorious outing for Nigeria as our National Team, the Super Eagles displayed great fighting spirit, beating the Bafana Bafana of South Africa to take Nigeria to the finals,” Obi said in a statement via X on Wednesday.

Obi praised the team’s “professionalism, patriotism and high energy level” which he said demonstrated their readiness to win the AFCON trophy.

“I congratulate them, and our dear nation for this victory, while appreciating everyone who has contributed to our victorious journey so far,” he added.

As Nigeria prepares for the final on Sunday, Obi expressed hope that the country would unite behind the Super Eagles.

“As we prepare for the finals, and get ready to lift the trophy together, we remain hopeful that, together as one, we will lift the banner of unity, peace, and progress in the New Nigeria we look forward to,” he said.

Obi reiterated that “Nigeria is a great nation with great people.”
