Adeleke Campaign Spokesman Threatens Fadahunsi With ₦10bn Defamation Suit

The spokesman for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s campaign, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has threatened to institute a ₦10 billion defamation lawsuit against Senator Francis Fadahunsi over alleged defamatory statements.

Olajengbesi, through his lawyer, Hammed Lasisi, issued the demand in a letter dated August 12, 2026, accusing the Osun East senator of making false and damaging claims about him during television interviews.

The lawyer demanded that Fadahunsi retract the alleged statements and issue an unreserved public apology within 24 hours or face legal action for defamation and injurious falsehood.

The letter referenced comments allegedly made by Fadahunsi during a live interview on Viable TV on July 2, which were subsequently circulated on social media.

According to Olajengbesi’s lawyer, the senator questioned his client’s origin and allegedly linked him to political thugs and the Eiye and Aye cult groups.

The letter quoted Fadahunsi as saying Olajengbesi was “not even from the same Ijebu-Jesha” and was “from somewhere in Ogun State.”

The senator was also alleged to have accused Olajengbesi of “using thugs, Eiye and Aye.”

Olajengbesi’s legal team argued that the remarks questioned his client’s identity and allegedly portrayed him as someone who sponsored or deployed cult members for political activities.

The campaign spokesman also cited Fadahunsi’s appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on August 11, where the senator allegedly made another reference to Olajengbesi while discussing the late Ajayi Aderogba, popularly known as Rogba.

Fadahunsi was quoted as saying: “Rogba is an Eiye man sponsored by Barr. Olajengbesi terrorising the whole … my own territory up and down through all these Eiye and Aye.”

According to the lawyer, the statement suggested that Olajengbesi financed, supported or patronised members of the Eiye and Aye groups and used them to terrorise members of the public.

Olajengbesi Denies Allegations

Olajengbesi denied the allegations, describing them as false and damaging to his reputation and standing as a legal practitioner, public figure and political figure.

His lawyer said the claims were particularly serious because they allegedly attributed criminal conduct to his client.

Olajengbesi maintained that he had never sponsored, financed or supported any cult group, nor authorised anyone to attack, intimidate or terrorise members of the public on his behalf.

He consequently demanded that Fadahunsi withdraw the disputed statements through the same media platforms where they were allegedly made and publish an apology across national and social media platforms.

Lasisi warned that failure to comply with the demands within 24 hours would result in the commencement of legal proceedings.

The lawyer said Olajengbesi would seek ₦10 billion in general and aggravated damages over the alleged defamation and injurious falsehood.
