ADC website crashes registration

ADC website crashes registration after overwhelming traffic from Nigerians joining new opposition group to challenge APC and President Tinubu in 2027

ADC website crashes registration following a dramatic surge in traffic, as thousands of Nigerians rushed to sign up for a new opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The emotional political moment saw the African Democratic Congress platform overwhelmed by interest, causing the site to go offline on Friday.

The crash came just two days after the ADC was officially unveiled as the vehicle for a broad-based “rescue coalition” aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

With excitement and political tension running high, the party’s digital infrastructure buckled under the pressure of widespread registration attempts.

According to a post that quickly gained traction on social media, the website became inaccessible when large numbers of users tried to sign up simultaneously.

“I kept getting error messages,” one Facebook user, Unclè Anass Dukura, said. “Too many people are visiting the site at once. It was not built to handle this.”

Independent verification by IntelRegion confirmed that the site failed due to the unexpected spike in traffic. The ADC has yet to release an official statement addressing the outage or when the site will be restored.

The interest stems from the coalition’s high-profile launch on Wednesday in Abuja, which featured some of the most influential political figures in Nigeria.

The initiative includes supporters and former officeholders from multiple parties, united by a shared goal to offer a credible alternative to the APC in 2027.

Among the dignitaries present at the launch were former Senate President David Mark, ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi.

Also in attendance were former APC National Chairman John Oyegun, ex-Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former Attorney General Abubakar Malami, and vocal PDP figure Dino Melaye.

The coalition drew even more political heavyweights, including media entrepreneur Dele Momodu, Senator Gabriel Suswam, Senator Ireti Kingibe, former Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha, and retired Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.

Their collective presence underscored the seriousness of the alliance and the momentum building behind it.

The ADC, which began in 2005 as the Alliance for Democratic Change before being registered by INEC under its current name, has often operated at the fringes of national politics. But with this latest coalition, the party appears poised for a larger role.

Online, users expressed both excitement and frustration over the site’s failure. Some joked that the crash symbolised how ready Nigerians were for political change, while others criticised the lack of digital preparedness for such a major moment.

“This is what happens when you underestimate the power of the people,” one user wrote. “If this many people want to join, then the ADC should have been ready. But it’s still a good sign.”

As of Saturday, there has been no update on when the website will be fully functional again. Technical teams are believed to be working behind the scenes to upgrade the site’s capacity.

The crash has unintentionally given the new coalition even more attention, drawing headlines and sparking discussions nationwide. For many observers, it signals that Nigerians are not just watching the political landscape  they are ready to participate.

In a political season already filled with anticipation, this crash might be the first of many shakeups to come.

Whether the ADC can transform this emotional wave of support into lasting political structure remains to be seen. But one thing is now clear: the public is paying close attention.
