Ali Nuhu, the director of the Nigerian Film Corporation and a prominent actor, has emphasized the crucial role that quality filmmaking can play in restoring Nigeria’s integrity on the global stage. In a recent interview with BBC Hausa, Nuhu highlighted the current state of Nigerian films, expressing his concern that only 30-35% meet the desired quality standard, while the target should be at least 70 to 75%.
Addressing the issue, Nuhu stated, “If you look at the films we produce in Nigeria’s film industry, you would see that only 30-35% meet desired quality as against 70-75%. So I will focus on this by making sure we are more educated and the provisions of quality equipment.”
The actor-director emphasized the need for a shift towards quality over quantity in the Nigerian film industry. He outlined his ambition to transform the industry into one of the world’s best, stressing that education and access to quality equipment are essential components of achieving this goal.
Nuhu acknowledged that certain individuals within the industry have contributed to a negative perception of Nigeria, stating, “Some bad eggs among the industry have given Nigeria a bad name, so through these films, we will restore our integrity.“
