President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, reinforcing his administration’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security and intelligence coordination.
The appointment was confirmed in a statement released on Monday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), which described Fadewa as a seasoned security expert with an outstanding track record in national security operations.
According to the statement, the appointment was approved in recognition of his “exceptional record of service, strategic expertise, and outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s national security architecture.”
Fadewa, a retired Major General of the Nigerian Army, brings more than three decades of military experience, particularly in military intelligence, counter-terrorism operations, and strategic security planning.
Between 2015 and 2021, he served as Principal General Staff Officer to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), where he played a major role in enhancing intelligence coordination among Nigeria’s security agencies.
He is widely credited with contributing to the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC) under ONSA — a platform designed to improve intelligence sharing among key agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.
Following his retirement from active military service, Fadewa joined the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja as a Senior Research Fellow, focusing on policing, civil-security cooperation, and reforms within the security sector.
He also authored a monograph titled Policing and National Security in Nigeria, which highlights the importance of inter-agency collaboration in addressing the country’s security challenges.
Security analysts view his appointment as a strategic move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s intelligence coordination and homeland security framework under the Tinubu administration.
