A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has reaffirmed that former President Goodluck Jonathan remains a member of the party despite speculation linking him to other political platforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The faction disclosed that Jonathan recently participated in the party’s digital membership registration exercise and personally completed his registration in his ward.

In a statement released on Saturday by the faction’s spokesperson, Ini Ememobong, the group dismissed campaign posters circulating on social media suggesting that Jonathan had aligned with other political parties.
According to the statement, some of the posters portray the former president as a presidential candidate, while others pair him with various politicians as potential running mates for the 2027 elections.

The faction described the materials as misleading and urged Nigerians to disregard any claims that Jonathan had defected from the PDP.
It further stated that Jonathan reaffirmed his membership of the party during a recent meeting with the faction’s interim National Working Committee, insisting that he remains a duly registered member under the Turaki-led leadership.
The group noted that the clarification became necessary because Nigerian law does not permit an individual to belong to more than one political party at the same time.
The faction also raised concerns that some persons could attempt to register Jonathan and other political figures in multiple parties without their knowledge or consent.
Consequently, the group called on the Independent National Electoral Commission and the public to disregard any alleged registration records or campaign materials associating the former president with any political party outside the PDP.
